Market Wrap for 10/26/26

Markets bounced back solidly to start the week, erasing much of Friday’s losses as AI enthusiasm returned on Anthropic’s highly anticipated IPO filing and oil prices cooled from recent highs.

Index Performance

Dow Jones: +0.28% to 52,361.58
S&P 500: ~+0.7% (recovering last week’s losses and staying within striking distance of recent highs)
Nasdaq Composite: ~+0.8% (tech-led rebound after two straight weekly declines)
Breadth was constructive, and volatility eased. The AI trade was the clear driver.

What Moved the Market

Anthropic IPO filing was the headline catalyst. The Claude maker publicly filed its S-1, revealing explosive growth: ~$16.3 billion in first-half 2026 revenue (up dramatically year-over-year) alongside massive losses (~$80 billion, largely from accounting charges on convertible bonds). It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, targeting a mid-November debut. Valuation chatter has cooled somewhat from prior $2T talk toward the $1.4–1.75T range, but the filing still re-energized the AI complex.

Chip and related names led: Nvidia, Broadcom, Micron, and others posted solid gains. Tesla surged ~5–6% (analyst upgrade + broader risk-on tone). Meta’s large AI infrastructure fundraising also stayed in the mix.

Oil pulled back, which helped equities. WTI eased toward ~$101 and Brent retreated from near six-month highs (recently above $116), as some profit-taking and diplomatic signals (Saudi-led talks involving Iran) reduced the immediate geopolitical premium. Still, Middle East risks (Houthi activity and Iran tensions) keep a floor under prices and inflation concerns alive.

Macro & Backdrop

The 10-year Treasury yield hovered near 5.00% (slightly softer in some reports).
The Fed meets this week and is widely expected to hold after the recent hike; the tone (hawkish pause vs. more dovish signals) will matter, especially with oil and inflation still in focus. ECB, BoJ, and others also meet.
Busy earnings week ahead: roughly one-third of the S&P 500 reports, including Alphabet, Microsoft, and Amazon. Capex and AI spending commentary will be scrutinized.

Quick Take

Classic Monday risk-on bounce on AI news + softer oil. The Anthropic filing puts hard numbers on the AI boom and reminds everyone how much capital spending is still required. That said, elevated oil, yields near 5%, and a heavy earnings calendar (plus the Fed) mean the path higher won’t be a straight line. Tech leadership returned today—watch whether it holds once the big reports hit.
