Morning Market Look 9/21/26
Futures are ripping because oil is sliding hard (fourth-down day), taking pressure off yields and inflation fears, while the AI/tech complex is bouncing after last week’s scare. Diplomacy headlines are also helping: successful U.S.-China talks ahead of the Trump-Xi meeting, Trump floating a possible Iran sit-down at the UN, and the Greenland deal with Denmark. NQ is leading the charge, followed by ES and YM.
Semis and AI names are doing the work — INTC, ACN, META, DELL, MRVL all green and strong. Media merger names WBD and PSKY are jumping. Crypto-adjacent names are participating too.
This is a classic risk-on relief bounce after three losing weeks for the Dow. Cheaper energy + lower yields + “talks are happening” is a potent mix for the open.
Caveats remain: geopolitics can flip on one headline, the Fed just hiked, and last week’s AI concerns didn’t disappear. If this is just positioning into the China summit later this week, it can fade. Watch whether the gap holds after the open.
