{+++}The dollar moved higher from the open today and that weighed on the market from the beginning. We also saw a bond auction that didn’t go well and interest rates popped and TBT higher. Today’s action was an example of how sensitive the market is to higher rates and a higher dollar. Today we got both. The market couldn’t tag yesterday’s high and only touched the 1101 area.
It was a giveback day, but the bulls are still in charge and there is no technical damage yet. I mentioned on Stocktwits.tv today that support was at 1084 when the market was around 1094, we closed at 1087, not bad, too bad I wasn’t short some futures. We have two economic reports tomorrow, nothing major, it will be interesting to see if the bears push their luck or will the bulls defend the hill. Obviously the 1100 area is a formidable challenge so far. 1105 then 1111 are upside resistance levels that I am watching and 1084 then 1080 for starters as downside support.
I have one name tonight, a short, and I have mentioned it for over a week now on Twitter, but GT could have some issues going forward. I personally got short today (around 13.90) and I will give this one a little time to work. Recent stopped shorts like CMG and EXPE look like they are starting to work a bit here. By definition “early” means wrong in the market, but these names as well as others, can be revisited short if the market stays weak. Of course I will keep you posted if we need to make a move. This has been a lethargic market even when it goes up, the temptation is to over trade and create set ups that aren’t there. Be mindful of that. I hardly traded today and feel better for it.
